Ingredients
For the filling:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or your favorite tart variety), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp lemon juice
For the topping:
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
- 1/4 tsp salt

Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the apples: In a mixing bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
- Transfer apples to the greased 9×9-inch baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
- Make the topping: In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the softened butter with a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream—classic ’80s style!
