Today is National M&Ms Day and there is no better way to celebrate than baking up and eating a batch of homemade cookies! M&M Cookies were practically a staple in the 80's kitchen and were hugely popular at bake sales and carry-ins. Enjoy a taste of nostalgia with this Retro Recipe while celebrating this iconic American candy.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cups butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 egg, room temperature
- 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
- as many M&M candies as you like-some things are better measured with the heart and not a cup!
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in medium bowl and set aside.
- Add butter, sugar, and brown sugar to a large mixing bowl or stand mixer and beat until light and fluffy. Scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing.
- Add egg and vanilla, mix until combined.
- Gradually mix in the flour, mix until combined.
- Stir in M&Ms
- Scoop dough into large balls and place on prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until light golden brown around the edges.
- Let stand 1 minute on cookie sheet, then transfer to cooling rack to cool completely.
