It's National Christmas Lights Day!

The 1980s brought a vibrant, electric shift in Christmas décor, and nowhere was that more obvious than in the era’s unforgettable holiday lights. As homes across the country embraced bold colors and over-the-top displays, the classic soft-white glow of earlier decades made room for strands packed with vivid reds, greens, blues, and yellows. The introduction of affordable, reliable mini-lights—smaller and brighter than the large C9 bulbs of the ’60s and ’70s—completely transformed the holiday look. Suddenly, porches, trees, and entire neighborhoods were sparkling with twinkling, flashing, and even “chasing” lights that danced across rooftops in rhythmic patterns. Store-bought displays became more elaborate, and homeowners proudly competed for the most dazzling setup on the block. Whether it was a fully synced light show or a modest but colorful tree, 80's Christmas lighting reflected the decade itself: bold, bright, and unafraid to make a statement.
